I’m unemployed….

and dammit, I didn’t want to leave.

I haven’t been able to say that for a very, very long time.  I have never enjoyed a job as much as I have enjoyed ths one.

As it happens, it was under the best of terms.  I resigned a few weeks ago, as we are moving overseas, and today was my last day.  It was a very emotional day today.  I had work to finish off and a couple of clients to see, so I was kept busy, but at around 3pm I got ‘the card’.  Thats when I turned into a complete wreck.  Thanks S!

Did I tell you I have the best job in the world?

V and S, I love you, and sincerely hope we can work together again one day.

I wish for wonderful things for you and your family.  Tonight I’m having WAY too many Cruisers, listening to old vinyls and remembering the fun times we’ve had.

So, when can we expect a visit from you?

Uncertainty is just shitty.

A year ago, we had a plan.  We would do up the house, sell it, buy a unit for the kids and move to San Francisco. A pretty simple plan in the grand scheme of things.

So, we did up the house and put it on the market almost 4 months ago.

Once again, we can insert Murphy here.

The real esate market plummeted taking with it the hope of us buying anything decent in the US.

The Australian dollar has plummeted, meaning our money is worth just over half it was in US dollars when we started this plan.

We can’t sell the house, I think a lot has to do with the fact that it is VERY hard to get financing at the moment.

It’s just all fucked up!

So, what do we do?  Do we take it off the market, relax for a while and try again in 6 months?  Or do we take what we can get and run like scared rabbits.

I must admit, it would be nice to have it sold and be completely debt free while still owning property in Sydney, but if we wait until the market improves we could get a lot more money for it.

Tell me what to do!

Recently a friend from Twitter asked me to do some work for her and for the job I had to use the ‘expertise’ of a second party to fulfill her needs.

I asked for sample colours of a particular fabric to be sent in certain shades for her to select from.

I received them and sent them on to her.

She was delighted with a particular colour, which I immediately ordered for her.

I took Brad to work with me the following morning and he was answering the phone while I was doing some paperwork.  I could hear this “I think you should talk to Kerri”….. “No, I really think you should talk to Kerri”… “No, no, you need to talk to Kerri”.

I took the phone and there was a very agitated man on the phone.

“I’m really sorry”

I wait for the bomb to drop.

“I’m really, really sorry”

Uh huh…

“I sent you a sample that wasn’t available.  That fabric is out of stock and discontinued.”

I’m sorry… WHAT??  I asked you for current stock and you went and cut a piece off a fabric that wasn’t actually there?  How does that work?

*eye starts to twitch*

OK, so what other colours do you have?  THIS one?

“No, it’s discontinued too.

How about THIS one?

“Um…. … can I call you back? “

Sure… why the hell not, I’m not getting any younger and I’m sitting here getting nowhere.

Ten minutes later I get the promised phone call.  It’s his boss.

“Hi Kerri, I’m really sorry”

Uh huh

“I’m really, really sorry”

Oh Jebus, here we go again.  Stop grovelling, get some balls, and find me the fucking fabric!

So, long story short, I lost the order, have probably lost a future customer, completely lost my sense of pride in my work and have lost a good chunk of my reputation with it.

All because of one incompetent nincompoop!

It’s a basic spelling concept, guys.  I can understand a typo, it happens, but you do it ALL.THE.GODDAMNED.TIME!

I have been dreading this number for years, but now that it’s here, I’m really quite liking it.

I’m comfortable with the fact, for now, that today I am 50.

Brad, of course, will be running his tail off spoiling me rotten, as usual. In fact at midnight he took me to Krispy Kreme for my first birthday coffee, he has downloaded a girlie movie, that no self respecting male would admit to watching and he is currently baking me birthday oatmeal cookies.

….and it’s only 2:15am. Heh

So, it will be a Maccas birthday breakfast, followed by an Italian birthday dinner, with lots of birthday fun and snacks in between.

OOOOOO, maybe we can do a birthday Dark Knight screening?

The possibilities are endless!

….that selling your house really sucks?

You make the decision about price and know that they are going to screw you down, so you have have to allow for that in your asking price….. yet how much is too much?  How much can you put on your house without it scaring off buyers?

It’s a fine line, I know that, but everyone wants to get the maximum price for the home they and their family have lived in for the last however many years.

The market is currently diving (Hello Murphy!)  so it may not be easy to sell, however we have had one couple through twice now and they have arranged to come again next Saturday with a builder to do full inspection.  It’s encouraging, but what will they find?

It’s an old house, so there is always something to find and fix, things we don’t notice because we have been here for so long.  I hate to think.  The tension is awful.

My son, bless his cotton socks, went out and bought a Playstation 3 and Guitar Hero 3 on Thursday. He set it up in the family room, good little sharer that he is, and it has been running hot ever since.

I knew this would happen if that game came into this house! My husband is gone forever!
